I drilled 4 half inch holes 2 years ago. The sound increased in volume and sharpness. Like or dislike will be in the ear of the beholder; I really like mine now. I did no carb modifications. It does not backfire more often, but when it does, it sounds like a hunting rifle.
Ride safe, and loud.
PS: I am well past 35!!
